Match Play Championship
The Match Play Championship will be organized in flights, with eight players of similar handicaps assigned to each flight. First Flight competition will be played from the Tournament tees. All other flight competitions will be played from the White tees. Each participant will play two rounds. Players who win either their first or second match will advance to the third (final) round. Each flight will pay four players: Champion, 2nd Place and 3rd Place (tie). Entry fee - $15.00.
The Match Player Director, Roger Mink (541 593 5684), will oversee the competition, answer any questions from the players, ensure the matches are completed on time, collect score cards turned into the Pro Shop, and post results. Any scheduling conflicts are to be resolved with the Director.
Any match tied after 18 holes will continue to play on holes designated by the Pro Shop, until a winner is determined.
The Handicap Committee, following USGA Standards, will compute the scores for matches that end after 13 holes but before the 18th hole. All rounds will be put into GHIN as a total score.
FIRST ROUND COMPETITION
The first round will be played on a scheduled Men’s Club play day. 1st round seeding of match play is determined by participants’ handicap index in effect immediately prior to the first day of competition. Within each flight, pairings will be lowest index versus highest index: 1st vs. 8th, 2nd vs. 7th, 3rd vs. 6th, and 4th vs. 5th. A pre-printed scorecard will be provided by the Competition Director for the first round only.
SECOND ROUND COMPETITION
The dates for the second and third rounds will be scheduled by the players and must be completed within 14 days of the prior round. If no time or date can be mutually agreed upon for subsequent rounds, the rounds will be played during the next available Men’s Club Event. If a player is still unavailable during this time, he will forfeit the match.
Second round matches will pair first round winners against winners and first round losers against losers. These second round pairings will be posted on the SRMGC web site and on the Woodlands Pro Shop Bulletin Board by June 10, 2010. Players will prepare their own cards for the second and third rounds, using their current handicap index as of the day of the match. After rounds two and three, the winner must call the Match Play Director, with the results. The signed scorecard must be placed in the “Match Play Championship Scorecard Box” in the Pro Shop at the golf course designated for that round. Completed cards will be used to (1) determine the matches for the next round (2) post the results on the web site and The Woodlands bulletin board, (3) post the score to GHIN. Failure to turn in a completed score card will result in the disqualification of both players.
THIRD ROUND COMPETITION
Players who have won their first or second round will play in the third round. The two players with 2-0 records will play for the flight championship. The remaining four players with 1-1 records will play for the two, third place cash prizes. Third round pairings will be posted on the SRMGC web site and on the Woodlands pro shop bulletin board by June 28, 2010. Players who compete in rounds 2 and 3 must sign and attest their score cards and leave them in a designated repository in either pro shop. Failure to turn in a completed score card will result in the disqualification of both players.
